Robert joined the library team in July as the new Technical Services Librarian. In addition to his duties as materials cataloger and online catalog manager, Robert will liaise with the Health, Allied Health, and Nursing faculties, as well as conduct library instruction sessions and assist patrons at the Reference Desk.
Robert is a Pennsylvania boy, born and bred in Uniontown, about an hour from Pittsburgh. His academic career kept him within the Keystone State borders, first at St. Vincent College for a BS in Psychology and then at Clarion University of Pennsylvania where he completed his Masters in Library Science.
During his “uneventful” childhood with his younger brother, his folks encouraged Robert to try plenty of activities like swimming, gymnastics, basketball, and Cub Scouts. However, Robert’s true passions have always been reading and movies.
Librarianship is a perfect fit for Robert’s lifelong love of reading. Though Robert never envisioned himself in the field, he discovered a natural affinity for the work during a college internship with the local public library. After staying with Adams Memorial Library for four years, he moved on to a cataloging position at Slippery Rock University for the next five years.
Robert is a rabid film fan. He has been known to drive to New York City, watch a film, then hop right back in the car and head for home! His wife and college sweetheart, Amber, doesn’t share his cinematic enthusiasm, but they are looking forward to an NYC trip in December to see Inherent Vice. They currently live in York with their menagerie of 2 dogs and 2 cats.
Though it pains some of his colleagues at Carroll to hear it, Robert is a big Steelers fan but says he “hates the throwback uniforms!” In fact, when asked if he could go back in time and do anything, he would change the outcome of Super Bowl XXX!
Looking away from the past and into the future, Robert has plans to go skydiving and bungee jumping to celebrate overcoming a lifelong fear of heights. He would also like to attend the Toronto Film Festival, and maybe one day spend a week luxuriating at Disney’s Grand Floridian resort.
Welcome, Robert, we’re glad to have you here south of the Mason-Dixon Line!
