Reserves--Your Library Friend!

Reserves For Faculty

Reserves can be a big help for you and your students.  Samples of excellent solutions to assignments can be made available for your students to review as can study guides, exams, your own personal items, or any type of media owned by the library. If we don't own it, we can usually order something for you with enough lead time.  Currently we have four boxes of "bones" on reserve that are used frequently!

    Some guidelines:

    • The staff begins accepting material for Fall semester two weeks
    • before the semester starts and we ask for 48 hours processing time and more if
    • possible for a large amount of items. Shortly after the end of the time
    • frame that is indicated on the required reserve form, staff begin pulling items
    • from the shelves.  Let the library staff know if  you will also
    • need them for the upcoming semester.

  • Please make sure that all the material is in the
  • library before students are made aware of it.
  • The library needs to know about films that students will be asked to view as
  • well, even if they are normally kept in the media center.  We pull
  • them from the media area and put them at the circulation desk in the reserve
  • collection which simplifies the process for us and the students.
  • Please let students know that films and other reserve materials cannot leave
  • the library. The normal in-library check-out period is 4 hours.  Special
  • arrangements can be made for other time frames and short loan periods if
  • needed.
  • Faculty are requested to fill out a form (online or available in the
  • library) for each course even if someone else is teaching the same course and
  • wants to "share" reserve items.
  • The library can no longer collect the names of students who are accessing
  • reserves materials.

Two new Reference titles also available online

The library just added two new print Reference sets. Both titles are accessible online via links in the online catalog.

Here is the description from the Salem Press website:

    Salem Health : Cancer    REF RC 265 S32 2009

Special features of the set include tables throughout identifying the most important chemotherapeutic and other drugs and the symptoms and conditions they address, population statistics, survival rates, and other core information. Photographs display for readers typical instances of lesions, tumors, procedures, and anatomical cross-sections to locate areas of the body affected.

Milestone Documents in American History   REF E 173 M62 2008

This fully illustrated, four-volume set will treat more than 133 iconic documents from the Revolutionary era to the twenty-first century.  Each entry offers the full text of the document in question as well as an in-depth, analytical essay that places the document in its historical context.  Among the documents included in the set are Revolutionary era standards such as Patrick Henry's "Liberty or Death" speech, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. Important presidential sources include Thomas Jefferson's first inaugural address, Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, Franklin Roosevelt's speech following the attack on Pearl Harbor, John F. Kennedy's 1963 address on integration, and George W. Bush's address on September 11, 2001. Influential decisions of the Supreme Court are also included, from Marbury v. Madison to Brown v. Board of Education to Bush v. Gore.
